南通飞鲸发电设备有限公司（简称飞鲸公司）是在对南通柴油机股份有限公司发电设备厂改制的基础上，由南通柴油机股份有限公司（简称通柴公司）控股、原南通柴油机股份有限公司发电设备厂经营层、骨干参股而成立的自主经营、自负盈亏的独立子公司。
        通柴公司始建于1958年，前身为南通柴油机厂，是国家机械工业重点骨干企业，1993年改制为国有控股的股份有限公司，2003年底根据国有企业改革的要求，国有股本全部退出，现为民营股份制企业。公司占地面积10万平方米，建筑面积6.2万平方米，总资产2.7亿元，注册资本7355.9万元，现有职工1100余人。
通柴公司设立专门的产品研发机构技术中心，拥有各类技术人员200余人，其中有一名享受国务院特殊津贴的高级内燃机技术专家，产品自主开发能力强，企业现有多项国家专利产品，其中N135柴油机及机组被认定为高新技术产品，荣获“国家机械工业科技进步奖”，Q135系列气体发动机及机组被评定为“国家重点新产品”。公司还与国内外科研机构、大专院校保持长期的产学研合作关系。
        通柴公司拥有大批“精”、“大”、“稀”生产、试验、检测设备，其工艺装备水平、制造技术水平、产品检测水平和企业管理水平在行业中名列前茅。柴油机年生产能力达12000台/120万kW。
通柴公司目前的主导产品是“飞鲸”、“富来威”牌135、138等系列柴油机。柴油机缸型有2、4、6、8缸直列型和12缸V型,功率覆盖范围从25kW到636kW，是海洋捕捞、内河运输船舶、各类工程机械、农业排灌、空气压缩机及发电机组配套的理想动力。
        通柴公司先后获得“江苏省AAA级重合同守信用企业”、“国家一级计量企业”、“江苏省先进集体”、“江苏省文明单位”、“江苏省高新技术企业”等荣誉，产品获得“中国柴油机十大名优品牌”、“中国渔船渔机行业品牌产品”、“江苏省名牌产品”、“江苏省免检产品”、“江苏省质量信得过产品”等称号。
飞鲸公司专业生产柴油发电机组、气体发电机组、水泵机组、环保设备及其零部件已有30多年历史，拥有年产1500台/15万千瓦的生产能力。公司以市场需求为导向，不断开发市场需求的发电机组，产品共有100多个规格型号，功率覆盖从10KW到1000KW，广泛用于工矿企业、金融机构、国防、电信、油田、建筑及海洋渔业、船舶运输等作为长期发电设备或备用应急电源。
        船用及船用应急发电机组是飞鲸公司的主产品，拥有多个规格品种系列。发动机除采用135系列配套外，还选用105、170系列国产品牌以及康明斯、道依茨、曼海姆、沃尔沃等国外著名品牌；发电机选用马拉松、斯坦福、兰电、西门子等公司产品进行配套，先后通过中国船级社（CCS）和中国渔检局（ZY）产品型式认可，单项产品曾通过BV、NK产品检验,并通过BV工厂认可。
        为适应船舶工业的飞速发展，不断满足顾客需求，飞鲸公司正在进行新厂建设，使之成为船用产品生产基地，新厂区占地面积32.5亩，建成后总试机容量达2500kW，可满足600 kW～1000 kW机组并联运行试验。
        2007年3月公司被VOLVO PENTA 授予江苏省独家代理商。
